ABSTRACT : This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of shading-materials on the growth of Chinese chives(Allium tuberosum ROTTL.) in summer culture.

1. Light transmittance of all shading materials was below 30% and the temperature

in all shading-tunnel treatments compared with control was low by 0.7~1.1¡É.

2. In 'Green belt' cultivar the growth was best in shading of T-2250(50% silver shading net) and yield was increased by 8% in shading with T-2250 and 80-SB (50% non-woven

fabric) compared with control, but the growth and yield in 'Solip' cultivar was good

in the control than in the all shading-tunnel treatments.

3. Pyruvic acid content of two cultivars was higher in the shading than in the control and 'Solip' cultivar regardless of shading materials was more much than 'Green belt' cultivar.
